Car normally runs great. Ocassionally notice the engine will idle/rev high (2000-2500rpm) to normal (900-1000rpm) and continue to cycle, on its own, until dying out. Normally happens after about 2-5 minutes after starting...whether driving or sitting/idling. Very difficult to restart afterwards.
1989 911 Carrera, 52K miles, recently acquired had 60k service performed prior to shipping to Guam. Minimal mechanic/service/repair resources on-island, including myself. Any ideas? NEED HELP! ~joseph Last edited by husslein; 10-22-2004 at 04:09 AM.. |

Joseph,
Do you have a 1989 Carrera or a 1979 SC? As far as I know there is no 1989 SC. Also what engine do you have, it would help us help you. Erik

If its an SC (3.0 CIS) could be the fuel pressure regulator or a vacuum leak (IMHO).

I'm having the same problem -- except it idles high 2000 - 2300 when I start it cold and stays that way (even after warm-up). Once I turn it off and it cools a bit it idles at a normal rate.
Thoughts?

1. Vacuum leaks,
2. Idle control valve 3. Oxygen sensor
