Post 964 distributor ventilation kit

Many thanks to those who answered my earlier question on distributor drive belts. Sorry if this is old stuff but has anyone out there got a set of instructions for the fitting of the ventilation kit for these distributors as I have just purchased one from pelican parts.

Many thanks. Nick White

Instructions call for drilling into the large circular duct that leads away from the auxiliary fan. I mistakenly drilled mine into the engine cooling fan cowl left of the alternator. I think I have much more air flow there than the other location.
Anyway, pop off the oval cover on distributor no. 1, fit in the hose nipple, drill the duct, fit in the large hose fitting, connect the hose and that's it.

An easier method is to take off the current tube from the plastic blower tube to the taillight assembly, and tee in the new vent tube to the distributor. This requires that you purchase a $.25 plastic tee from a auto parts store, but eliminates any cutting.

I have some photos of how the conversion should look on my website at http://members.rennlist.com/complete964 that will hopefully show where to drill.

I couldn't find any pics large enough to see where it went. Some pages at that site are dead.

Can anybody describe or post where to connect this hose?

Not sure what you need a picture of, but I went out and snapped a quick shot of my engine bay in that area. If you need another pic, let me know.

Thx for posting that. After looking, I think what I need is information ...

I have a 3.2 converted to carbs and dual-plugged. I am wondering where the end of the vent hose should go. Coming off the left (D's side) of the alternator is a plastic adapter from the shroud to the heater hoses into the SSIs. Is that a good place? i.e. does it have the right positive pressure? I don't want to blow too much air thru the distributor.

Below is a pic -- as you see, there is already a hole in that piece.

OK, I give up on trying to post a pic....

Randy, don't ever give up!

I don't have quite the same set-up as you other then being twin-plugged. I am retaining Motronic but will run headers and thus will not require the heater blower tube. Here is where I am running the vent hose:

Just another option to consider...

Thanks. I think I'll just shove the end of the hose into the hole in the tube that leads to the hose to the SSIs. Should work, based on the two examples posted. I nver could get the BBS to take my photos - not worth the 2 hours I spent on it....

My guess on this kit is that you pull the little metal plate out of the distributor body, put the big round black insert in, and then jam the small black insert with the hose nipple inside the big one... Let me know if I am wrong about that. Thx again.
