Removing AC, is the fluid corrosive?

Wondering if the AC fluid will harm the paint or metal.

Carefully removing the system from an '80 SC.

Regards,

Markus

No, it's not. And, if you can remove it (hoses, compressor, evaporators, little evap blower motors etc) without destroying it, please email me. My email is the same as my yahoo ID.
I might be interested in purchasing parts if they're compatible with my 84 system, which is no longer in the car.

Thanks.

Garage
Oil

Markus,

When I removed mine the freon had already leaked out. The only thing remaining is oil in the lines and compressor. I don't think there is anything special about the oil, it's pretty thick stuff. No unique concerns related to corrosion that I'm aware of.

Something to keep in mind: The oil pools at the lowest points in your system - the lines from front to rear. I didn't have any oil leaks when I removed the system from my car, but failed to consider there might be some oil remaining in the lines. I left them sitting on my garage floor overnight and found a big puddle of oil under them the next day. May want to bag them or hang somewhere to let them run into a bucket.
