Sound System questions

Ok im on a budget of about a grand to redo the whole sound system in my car do need anything tooo nice but i am kind of an audiophile, and I want more than the crappy piece of junk thats in there now. I was thinking bout it today and i have space to fit a amp in the front, but what kind of sub is nice but will fit into the back seat of the car of somewhere like that. O

Oh yeah what are some of the systems and set ups that I should be looking for. Im not listening to rap or techno, so i dont need a huge bass, but I dont have any know so anything would be an improvement.

I've got a single 8" sub in a custom box on the floor behind the driver's seat. It adds punch to the system without hacking up the car. Amps (one for the head unit and one for the sub) are in the front.

I have a JL 10W0 in the back of my sc. I made a fiberglass enclosure so it fits over the hump in the center. There is just enough space, however you do lose about in inch or so of rearward movement in the seats. I will post some pics tomorrow. I get plenty of bass for anything I want to listen to, but it is in no way overpowering. I was able to fit a 5 channel alpine amp under the drivers sear to drive the system. I also put 2 JL VR600 components in the doors. I think it sounds really good for only 2 speakers and a sub for about 300.
