What is this Part????
I had a rattle on the passenger side door of my '86 Carrera. Pulled the door panel off and found this laying inside. I have power windows. Is it part of the regulator? The window goes up and down just fine.

Kurt, I just had the same thing happen on my drivers side several weeks ago, and posted this thread:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/187331-can-someone-identify-window-door-part.html That thread will take you to another... bottom line...if your window is working OK, it has already been fixed...hope this helps. |
That part holds the spirally wound spring on the window regulator assembly. All window regulators in 911s use them- manual and electric. if your window works fine, perhaps this was from an old repair where the part was left in the door. if not, i think our host has them- measure the height since there are different models. if not, Performance Products carries them

Thanks for the quick responses guys!!!!! Hard to believe 3 of us had the same problem within 30 days. Anyway, I am sure this part has just come off as I had the door panel off a couple of months ago and vacummed out the bottom of the door and it wasn't there then. Is it possible the spring just hasn't popped off yet? How is a new one installed?

The rectangular end fit's in a rectangular hole in the window regulator arm. You can put it back in and smash the back of it like a rivet.
It holds the outer tab on the coil spring. When it's missing the tab get's caught on something else. That's why uyou probably didn't notice anything different. Give it a try before buying a new regulator. Also check the plastic window stops that are on the regulator arms. They sometimes break and or crack.I've seen them made with either hard white plastic and hard black rubber. Don't know when they changed, but I think the black ones will last longer. |
Bill, thanks for the additional information!

This is another piece of Porsche exceptional engineering.
BTW, this one is a piece of the original pivot for the window regulator. They are made of Zinc! There are two versions of them depending upon the style and year of window regulator. One version has the flats parallel with the slot for the spring, the other at right angles. Replacing them in your window regulators will often improve the ease of making the window go up and down. I have remanufactured them from bronze, hard aluminum, and steel. All of them worked better that what was in there. Goodluck, David Duffield |
