Any Utah members?
Just a general question: Do they salt the roads in SLC? Do cars rust in that neck of the woods? TIA.

Very funny.
![]() I once almost bought an old Alfa from Utah that was pretty clean, and those cars rusted worse than 356s. So what is the answer? ![]()

New member from Utah (Ogden area, north of SLC).
Yes, they salt the roads heavily here, but rust is not a problem. The reason is that the air is so dry that after salting the roads, the water evaporates quickly. Most of the snowfalls are pretty dry, not the heavy, wet snows on the east coast. It is not unusual to get up after a heavy snow and find the streets that have been plowed, are already cleared and dry!! As a bonus you can just take your arm and sweep the dry powder off your vehicle.

I don't mean to discount what LanceS4803 says above, just adding my experience. I bought an '88 GTi from a person in SLC a few years ago. Unfortunately I can't say how long the car had "lived" in SLC, but it did have some rust issues. Anywhere where the paint or undercoating was in good condition there were no problems, but anywhere where the paint had been scratched and on unprotected pieces on the underside there was a lot of rust. The car was not well cared for before I got it, so I would think that if a person kept a car clean in SLC it would remain solid, but before I buy a used car in SLC again I will take a closer look at it.
