lug nut material
are the aluminum OEM lug nuts for weight savings, or to keep a "soft" lug nut against the fuch's aluminum construction? would a steel lug nut over time damage the rim? assuming that they are installed with care, and only tightened to spec.

Original reason was for weight savings...when Porsche was seriously interested in this.
There are VW transporter steel lug nuts that many use for track use or DE days. Make sure you lube up the dome contact surface. Wil

doozer....what are you asking?
The thread on the lug studs is 14mm x 1.5 pitch. The lug nuts can't be purchased off the rack because ( if Fuchs are used) the mating surface of the lug nut must perfectly fit the hemispherically-shaped hole of the Fuchs wheel. Therefore the need for the $1-2 steel lug nut from the VW dealer, or such. Wil

I bought some off ebay that I use for the track. around $30 After seeing part of the threads left on my hubs I feel much safer track driving with steel lugs

some track require steel lug nuts. For street driving, I use new AL lug nuts because it looks nice.

HEre's a cosmetic question: Has anyone seen the "black nickel" lug nuts that Perf. is selling? If so, what do they look like?

I can't say fior sure if the 356 parts are the same....I know these parts as a VW transporter part number. I f I find the number...I'll post it here. Maybe pelican tech staff can physically match up the 356 piece with a normal aluminum ( or is that aluminium...as the Brits say) piece.

Steel lug nuts should be available from the dealer. They were used on early 911s with steel wheels. Not sure about the 356 lug nuts, but I suspect they would be no different.

Or, rather than buying from the dealer, you could buy them from our host.
Steel lug nut: N-020-112-1 $1.30 each

i did get them from here, the 356 units listed above. when i went to check out it did list the applications and it stated 911,914, and 356.
the vw dealer wanted like $5 each, and an after market vw place here in the south bay called bugformance wanted $2.80, so the pelican purchase was the deal. john, did you find that in the 911 section of the catalog?
