Mark -

Insane is correct. Wow, amazing footage and I'm glad I watched the last film clip. I'm glad that everyone seemed to be okay...

After the first 10-20 seconds I was thinking, what's so insane about this? It's saved on my harddrive now. WOW.

D@MN!!!

I hope those fellas came out with not much more serious than a sunburn and a little dazed.

I just can't imagine it's ever a good thing to be out of a smoking car and still be smoking yourself.

That was incredible! The music in the first clip was pure Japanese film house stuff..or was it just in my head?

It looks like the drivers will be OK...but that was just numbing.

I see that it was a wet track, but there must have been something else to cause both to shoot off like that at that point....Edit: I just watched it again, and it sounded like the Ferrari was accelerating and just lost traction...must have been the same for the 993..this was the start of the race, right..so they were hot on the gas...

HOLY BAT-TERDS!!!!

That thing blew like a Ford Pinto! Insaine, it looks like everyone in that part of the pack didn't have there headlights on either...

The ferrari hit a peice of debis, you can see it fly out of the fog just before he comes out to the grass.

I personaly like how the corner worker helps the guy ot of the ferrari, sets him down, leaves him for the fire extingueser while the guy sits up, falls over, rolls around trying to get the smoking helmet off....

Man, that scared the living crap out of me.

If I were involved in an accident like that, once the fire was out, I would NOT want to be removed by a corner worker, I would wait for a spine collar and spine board. That guy just GETS UP and tries to walk away, he could have spinal fractures that would cut through his nerves when he moved and . . .lights out baby.

I can't believe the way the Porsche's fuel cell split open like that. That's NOT supposed to happen.

I thought the same thing about the corner worker pulling the guy out of there. When the first guy stopped hosing and started to reach in, I was going to be sick, thinking he was going to pull a char'd body out.

On the tank...it's one of those things that occurs in the real world. We can design safety into everything, but in a real world situation there are many random actions that can't be anticipated. Once small sharp point and the shell integrity is compromised, and at the impact level, the bladder becomes a water balloon looking for any outlet to relieve pressure.

Ferrari build quality.

One other amazing thing about the clips, to me, is how good the sound is. It's almost like in a Hollywood movie where sound effects guys go back and re-record everything so it sounds distinct and recognizable. Half way through it, I though this might be footage someone was shooting for a movie. But the acting was too good, especially on the part of the Ferrari driver.

Yeah the sound was tweaked, but if you look at the bottom of the media player while it is playing... You will see it says 1998 Japanese GT3 Championship... This was no movie...

When your bell is rung that bad, you'd probably do all manner of stuff that you would not ordinarily try and do. Having lived in Japan for two years, I'll simply say that the Japanese do things differently. I can only think that maybe the workers concern was for residual heat and or/reflash would put the driver in more harm...but I do agree that he should have stayed with the driver in order to ensure he didn't try to move anymore.

Shocking....
I would think that since the fire looked out, a high priority would be to make sure the driver would be stablized to prevent further injuries?
