removal of front strut lock nut

I am trying to install a cambermeister strut brace on my 86 carrera. I am having a hard time removing the nut from the strut mount. Every time the whole strut assembly just rotates with the nut. Is there a special tool that would hold the tower or the plate in place. Any help would be appreciated.

Use very large channel lock pliers to grab the washer below the nut (which has a tab that will hold the strut in place) while you turn the nut.

The washer or plate below the nut has a notch in it, does that serve a purpose

Sounds like a good excuse to buy an impact wrench and a big air compressor

Electic impact wrench is the ticket. Changed both my strut inserts tonight in less than 40 minutes....including jacking it up and pulling the wheels.

Thanks for all the input on the impact wrench, no dout that would help, soon I'll by one but tonight I think I'll use the very large chanel lock.

The nut is only on with something like 52lbs torque so an impact wrench with scare it so bad it'll come off by itself :-) If I had one I'd use it but really big channel locks work to hold the washer while you turn the nut and I have the channel locks.

Hey Sherman - I've got a sepia brown 911T too.
