Bearing shells?

I can't find anything in the Rebuild book about bearing shells?

1. Do they need to be removed and cleaned?

2. If so, are they removed safely to themselves, to the case?

Thanks

Bearing shells typically are replaced. I bet some of them will show copper.

You replace all the bearings 'cept for #8. To remove the shells I use a piece of poly or nylon rod and push/tap on the very end of the bearing shell that doesn' have the notch.
