Engine Swap Time

The seasons over and now the time has come to swap out the 2.5L for this 2.0L. Had to install the longer exaust studs to accept the Becks Racing header system. Will re check cam timing and valve adj for the 3rd time! Then do the swap including new racing transaxle. Break in Cams then off to Willow springs to test and breakin, hopefully Dec. 10th when the Poc guys are racing that weekend. will post more photos of the swaphttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1100881012.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1100881024.jpg

Super looking engines!

Have fun with the project.

Vintage911Racer 11-20-2004 02:23 PM

Mark,

Doesnt Frank make a different set of Headers for the 2.0 vs. the 2.5?
Will the 2.5 headeers work as well on a 2.0L?

Just curious.

BTW.... I am very happy you are finally going to run the 2.0L. That is what CP should be.. all 2.0L....

Tex3 11-20-2004 03:32 PM

Minkoff I plan to do my first engine drop on an SC. Is that the tranny and engine I see in the pic.......took only 1hr +20min??
Wow I thought it would take longer. You think it is easier to drop both tranny/engine or ??
btw nice looking engine wish mine was that cleanSmileWavy

The Chef 11-20-2004 03:57 PM

Damm. You VARA guys make it look so easy:)

Zeke 11-20-2004 05:03 PM

Too pretty to race it. :D

Outstanding, as usual, Mark.

Silveresrty911S 11-20-2004 07:29 PM

Beautiful engines, gave me some good color schemes when I pull mine for mine oil leak and clean up.
Looks like it's time to install that front door! ;)

earlyapex 11-20-2004 08:24 PM

Now that's a work of art. My car looks like an ash tray in comparison.

126coupe 11-21-2004 06:44 AM

Tex3 Your engine drop will be more complicated, remember this is a race car, engine and gearbox are in and out all the time., therefore the fasteners are easy to deal with. also everthing is engineered to unplug quickly for a quick swap at the track.

Some guys like to drop the engine and leave the tranny. I dont, much easier this way, besides I'm putting a new long box in for the CA Speedway in January. Taller 5th, hitting the rev limiter at 8200 rpm with the other box

Mark scott I'm going to try the 2.5 header system. my exaust ports are only 1 mm smaller than the header flanges. If it works great! If it does not I guess another header system is in the future. I'll know by lap times at willow and just the "feel" under my foot

Silverestry911S

You would see the front doors, I can build Porsche engines, but a carpenter Im not. Remolding the house for months keeps the wife happy and in turn I go racing Yipeeeeeeeeeee

126coupe 11-21-2004 07:48 AM

hey Vintage racer are you getting the Beck system for your 2.0? If I need it too maybe he can give us a package deal?
Although I'm not looking forward to having to fork out more $$$$. It seems to never end.

jwmc1 11-21-2004 07:50 AM

SAH-WEET!

Vintage911Racer 11-21-2004 01:52 PM

Minkoff,
Tell me about it... $$$$ never stops going out but seems to always run low coming in...

I am not sure on the 2.0L system.... I have to get all my fiberglass put on, fitted and painted..... Then property taxes, then more crap, then more crap...... I need more money....

126coupe 11-22-2004 06:24 AM

Vintage Racer are you running the entire season? I'm not sure dont want to burn out! when you do all the work (some of it is work) yourself its easy to "burn out" I'm hoping for no mech failures this season. Are you running the new track in Pahrump?

Vintage911Racer 11-22-2004 07:08 AM

Minkoff,

Not doing full season. Only Local events. Going 6 ears without missing one has taken its toll on me and my check book. However, I may do Pahrump just because I like learning new tracks. What about you?

126coupe 11-22-2004 07:15 AM

So where can I get a "no cheaters, 2.0L " sticker for the car?
What constitutes a Local Event? I may run most events If the
engine holds up.

Vintage911Racer 11-22-2004 07:50 AM

JP Has the stickers....

Local Events:

Cal Speedway, (1 event)
Willow, (2 events)
Buttonwillow (2 events)
and Maybe Pahrump. (1 event)

I may do more, but I will have to wait and see.

126coupe 11-22-2004 08:11 AM

Thats everything but Vegas, I willing to bet you do all the events, Get on the phone and sell!!!!!!!!!!

italcarguy 11-22-2004 08:31 AM

I said I was gonna do the local races only last year and ended up not missing one! I said this year I was gonna do local races but back to back championships sounds nice....let's do it Mark, CP and BS back to back champions!
