78 SC Rev limiter

Have a 78SC USA body that I just installed an 83 SC euro engine. I know the euro has NO rev limiter.

I retained the 78 wiring harness, but change to the 6 pin CDI form the euro.

I was wondering if I posted a picture of what I believe to be the rev limited ( relay/box ?? w/ 4 wire plug) behind the instrument panel if someone could confirm it.

I can post tommorow. FYI: I have search the many threads on this subject - which all say they can nit find a picture of this darn thing.

I know - i should have waited until I posted the pic , but I just completed another post on a different topic adn could not resist.

Maybe someon has a pic and would post??

Also - I can't confirm the rev limter or lack therof because car is not street legal just yet. And, I just don't have the gust to rev it anywher near 6000 just yet - just too much work into and I have not driven it yet.

TIA
Earl

I have an '83SC

The rev limiter relay (on my ride) was behind the fuel gauge in the dash mounted to the left rail. part number 911 617 136 00.

yes, it's about 3x3x1, black, with an x shaped moulding on the face, and a white rectangular plug on the bottom. it cuts off the fuel pump. they also go bad on their own and cause a jerky cut-out when driving. even at idle. unplugging it removes it from the system.

Thank You Thank You Thank You JW!

I have been chasing a fuel pump problem for months. I noticed that my relay was clicking on and off and was getting extreemly hot when touched by hand. I've replaced wires, relays, fuses and almost a new fuel pump trying to fix the problem!

When I stumbled on this thread I said Hmmmmmmmmm poped open my hood and found the limiter and unpluged it and no more jerking and stumbling from the red fuel relay. Woooooooo hoooooo. Thanks JW! I held it in my hand (red relay) and pluged the limiter in and could feel it right away making the clicking noise.

Is there any harm in running with this disconnected other then over reving? What RPM does it supposed to cut out at?

You could install the 79 turbo rotor which cuts out at 6500 rpm.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.
