Introducing myself and my first Porsche
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1101051727.jpg
Well I have to admit my dream car was a BMW 2002, But it has been overtaken by THIS car! We saw it advertised and just had to take a look (my wife has always wanted a Porsche :) ) Love at first sight and a "cargasm" the first time that engine fired up! We got together the money had a PPI done and are now the proud owners of a 1979 911sc Targa in bitter chocolate brown. It has just over 100,000 miles, history is unknown but the mechanic doing the PPI said it was in good condition. We have been members of the BMWCCA and met many great 2002 owners around the NYC area. So please let me know if there are other SC owners in the are... The Porsche is still so new to me I'm just getting comfortable driving it smoothly and building my confidence. It is such a pure and raw machine and has already brought huge smiles. I have been reading this board for the past several weeks and enjoy the depth of knowledge and varied topics that are brought up as well as archived. Looking forward to the journey that's been started with this car! Dan |
Welcome. Beautiful ride. Enjoy.

Congrats. BMWs are good, but really a different beast. A 911 is unique. Enjoy it.

Dan,
Welcome. Nice SC. Find your local PCA region http://vista.pca.org/ and go to meetings and events. You will find a great group of Porsche people. Keep monitoring and posting on this Forum. Pelican has a great search engine and much of your “new owner” questions are on there to be found. Everyone on this Forum will encourage you to DIY as much as possible. I just wonder how long until you both find the need for a second 911. Best, Grady |
1976 BMW 2002
Here is a picture of our dearly departed 2002 "Moritz" I was just getting used to all of its quirks and learning the basics of maintenance on it. But I have to agree the Porsche is an entirely different animal.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1101053830.jpg

Great looking SC.
Targas ROCK! |
Welcome Dan - Great looking SC, you'll learn a lot here in a very short time....
|
Beautiful!
You won't regret it. BMW's are cool, but NOTHING compared to a 911. BMW is my transportation but the Porsche is MY CAR. rjp |
Beautiful car. Now the love affair begins.
Welcome to the board. |
Welcome to the club, Dan! Very sweet car. These things suck you in, don't they;)
I assume you are going to join the Porsche Club of America (PCA)? -Scott |
Very nice. I am up in Brooklyn Heights. Drop a line when you are interested in going to your first PCA event or meet and drive. It would be nice to have someone to caravan with. :)

Hmmm.... I have 2.5 Porsches.. and still, finding a MFI 2002Tii is WAY up on my thing to do list!!!
Dan your in Brooklyn Heights? Montague St? Henry St, Cherry, Pineapple??.. If you join the PCA you will be joining the Metro NY chapter.. We host about 15 Drivers Eds a year, and a like amount of Auto Crosses..We have rallies.... concourses.. etc... I have been a DE instructor for about 6 years now...Im sure I can get you hooked on driving your car on the track!! |
Congratulations! Welcome aboard!!

Wilkommen.
Metro NY PCA is a great chapter, they have all kinds of fun events. The Autocross program is excellent, DE's are great, and more than a few of us are active in the Club Racing program. We have been known, on occasion, to quaff a few tall beers and tell a few tall stories, also. I used to own a '75 2002, #2366288. Ask fellow 'Head Overpaid Slacker about his, it belongs in the museum in Munich. . . |
Thanks for the welcome!
We'll be signing up for the PCA and hopefully be seen at events in the Northeast, I was pleasantly surprised to see a VT chapter as well. I live in the Navy Yards/Clinton Hill area of Brooklyn, it's frustrating driving the Porsche in the city, I'm really looking forward to going up North for the holiday and driving some twisty mountain roads. What a small world it is in the internet! yay http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1101099137.jpg |
That is a very nice 911 :D. We have to see some engine and interior pics! Enjoy driving it! There are a lot of knowlegable people here and feel free to post on the board. Did you buy "101 Projects for your Porsche 911" or "Haynes Porsche repair manual"? I have both, and I highly recommend them.
