hot fuse line
hope this makes sense. when my headlights are on the fuse connector under the dash just below the ignition gets very hot. the two wires and the plastic holder are hot to the touch.i just replaced my headlights with 80/100 bulbs. could this be the cause?

Likely, did you install a relay kit or are you running all the power through the original light and dimmer switches? There may also be a poor connection at the fuse holder; poor connection means higher resistance which means more heat lost at that point. Power losses go up by the square of the current - 16 amps will generate 4 times the heat of 8 amps. If you lack a relay kit, to save your light and dimmer switches, I would suggest you pull the 80/100 bulbs until you can install one. Jim

I was told that as long as I didn't run the highbeams for a long period of time I should be fine? Is a relay kit easy to install?

I would not run the high beams at all. The heat is telling you something -- and it is pretty obvious what....
