Attempting to De-Rattle a 15+ Year Old Car

I was hoping to do a cheap re-do of some of the "crucial" rubber along the doors to try to get a good seal and hopefully eliminate some of the various rattles and wind noise. Any thoughts on which replacement parts should be replaced in hopes of "tightening" up one's aging car. I know that the door surround on the body of the car is cracking in places. This seems like the obvious one, but I'm now thinking that there are likely others that are more prone to cracking which lead to the degredation of that "bank vault" feeling.

thoughts?

thanks in advance.

I replaced door seals about a month ago and it's really not that difficult. Only the left (driver's) side was really in need of replacement, but I did both anyway. In my particular case, it didn't make much difference in wind noise, but it did significantly "tighten up" the feel of the door when closing. If it were mine, I'd do the door seals first and then go from there....unless other rubber around the doors, windows, etc. show obvious wear, I wouldn't mess with it...you could possibly end up with more noise than what you have. P.S. try to stick with Porsche rubber and leave the aftermarket stuff alone.

David, there was a really good article in excellence a couple of years back that did a step by step door seal redo. I don't recall which issue, but try to search around. What about the dashboard? Mine seems to squeak a lot but I have no idea how to pinpoint from where or if is worth trying to fix. I don't want to remove the windshield and take apart the entire dash. Then there's the front and rear bushings, motor mounts, in fact all of our old rubber which may be worn out and cracking. The list goes on.....

mike,
i'm right there with you. there are a variety of little niggling squeeks and rattles that i would love to eliminate from the dash area. I'm hopeful that someone will jump in a detail what worked for them for eliminating some of them.

anyone else target a particular squeek or rattle and kill it either via an adjustment or replacement of rubber?
