To split or not to split
I am rebuilding the calipers on my SC, should I split them for the rebuild? It says that this may cause them to leak. Whats my best bet guys?
the last thing I would do is split them. I split calipers and had no leak afterwards, only an unknown brake problem of constant air in a line or should I say air being sucked into the line.. whatever.
I've never heard of a good reason to split the calipers and wouldn't recommend it. Just pull the pistons, clean them up and thier bores and put it back together with new seals
nope, don't split 'em unless they're leaking already- soak 'em in cleaner for awhile instead. In the rebuild kit there's no rings for the thru bolts.
Nope. Clean, flush, new rubber.
Cool, then i wont. What is a good way to get the pistons out without using compressed air? Im young and dont have a compressor.
I seem to remember reading that someone got them out with a bike pump?
It was a few weeks / month or so I was reading the post in the archives...... -Chris |
Matt, unless you have cocked a piston or there has been corrosion, you should be able to rotate the pistons while pulling them out. Give yourself a little advantage and push the pistons out a little with with the MC while the calipers are on the car. There is a tech article here that is good. Look in the tech article section.
