Unusual VIN

I'm a little puzzled over the exact decoding of the VIN of my car. It begins 911250, which should be a 72 911T. But what do the 5 and 0 mean? I've checked several references on the internet, but none mention or recognize the 5. If it helps any, it's a 4-speed, and it does have the oil tank on the right behind the passenger door, so definitely a 72. I don't have the engine # handy but I'll dig it up tomorrow if there's still confusion.

In the end I don't care that much, cause it's so much fun to drive :-) It's only been in the garage a couple weeks, but I'm trying to get as many km's on it as possible before the salt hits the road... (winter sucks)

The 5 is a code for the engine type, which is a "TV", meaning that the engine is carbureted. The 0 is a code that indicates the car is a coupe.

Yep, 72 Euro (RoW?) model had carbs and a 5 in the 5th digit.

Cool, thanks for those explanations. It does indeed have carbs. According to the PO, it's not a RoW - it was originally sold in Germany then brought to Canada a number of years ago by the original owner, from whom he bought it. No documentation to verify any of this, however. (The guages are in German and in km's, so that at least meshes with the story. "Druck" threw me for a loop, and took a minute to figure out what the hell it was :-) )

RoW (Rest of the World) does include your car, as the "other" market was the US. Due to the stringent (for the time) emissions laws in that country, USA 'T' models had mechanical fuel injection, while the other markets (including the home market of Germany) got the carbs.

Thanks for that explanation - I was completely unaware of that. Pretty much the opposite of how I assumed it was.
