Question Jack stands question for a 1991 C2 Turbo

Fellas,
Please ignore my ignorance and help me out here.I need to take off the rear wheels which i can by jacking up the car right underneath the rear rocker panels. However would it be alright to put J-stands underneath the rear struts or where else can i put them ? also when i jack up the rear the same side front goes up as well,so would i need to put another J-stand there too ?
Thanks
Yasir

If your taking off both rear wheels, then use a block of wood underneath the engine and lift it up, and put the stands under the banana arms close to where to shock mounts. If you lift it up by the side, as you mentioned the front comes up too, and thats fine, just a stand in the same place as above and not in the front, but when you lift the other side the car will teater over. Its kind of unstable until the front wheel comes back down.

My engine is on a pallet right now, otherwise I'd post a pic!

Yasir, here is a picture of my car, similar to yours, that someone can doctor up in photoshop and explain where it should be jacked up. In this case, the car sits on jack stands on the torsion bar tubes. The jack under the car is doing nothing. I used the block of wood you see on the floor under the oily dark area of the engine center to get the car up.
