What I Did On My Summer Vacation....
Hey guys, it's been a while. Actually, it's been a really long while. I finally have a moment to come up for air and wanted to share what I've been up to. I have done a ton of work on my garage. I built an outdoor shed for storage, air compressor, etc. I re-did all the walls in my garage, ran a bunch of electrical outlets, dedicated air supply lines, epoxied the floor, etc, etc. Now everything is clean and organized. I love it.
![]() ![]() You may have noticed my new toy. ![]() Man is it cool. Just think of the cool Porsche parts to be made! If anyone needs anything just let me know. Flanges, CIS/EFI blocks, whatever. |

I've been insulting my garage and putting up drywall the past couple of weekends, but CRAP! I'm ashamed to show now. Nice job...I saw the bandsaw, shear and the drill press in the first picture, then POW! The CNC machine...holy crap I wish I had one.
You want to contract out time wih the thing? |

Awesome garage. Thanks for the pics. I really like the air supply lines and the remote noise compressor.... I mean air compressor. I hope that motor in the background isn't for the yellow car.
BTW, I've been interested in CNC machines for a while, but have yet to run across the "CNC machines for Dummies" book. If someone wanted to make a part, what format file would that machine take? Does it use standard G-code stuff? Can you make the proper machine codes easily from a CAD file of some type? If so, what CAD format? Maybe I should just keep my mouth shut and be THOUGHT a fool.......... Rob

Thanks all
Souk, yes I am going to be doing some contract machining. I don't have any overhead and small runs are fine too. I actually started a business. Hargett Precision Products is born. I have been thinking and designing some parts I want to produce and sell too. Stay tuned for that. You should see the 25HP electric motor for the phase converter! the thing is huge. The phase converter gets me 3 phase from 2 phase. The mill alone weighs 6,800 lbs. Rob, at the most basic level all of the CNC's run off of G code. Allthough, they all also have slightly different syntax. The "post" from the CAM software has to match the particular controller of the machine. Basically, you draw/design the part in CAD, then you use a CAM program to actually generate the tool paths, then you output (post) the Gcode from the CAM program to the machine itself. My particular machine also has what they call "conversational" programing. For a lot of basic stuff I just program it at the machine. To answer your last question, .DXF is the most widely used CAD format to start from. |

I have never seen a shop featuring both CNC milling machine AND $149 Harbor Freight bandsaw.
![]() If you add a hide-a-bed, toilet, TV, internet connection, and fridge, one could live in such a garage virtually forever. You are my hero! Zeke, it appears Hargett plans to install the V8 into the trunk...possibly a twin engine, quad turbo, AWD setup. Good work, Natchamp. Jurgen |

Nice to see you've been putting your time to good use.
![]() How 'bout a set of 930 injector blocks so I can start on that EFI system?

WOW! THAT is cool...and to think that having a Bridgeport in my garage was a dream....tisk tisk!
I used to work in a shop with a big CNC mill that was "new" to them. I was buddies with the head engineer, who was given the task of designing stuff in ProE, then having it pop out of the mill. Really cool to watch when it all goes well, but man when that cutter head takes a dive in the wrong direction....heads shake and parts get tossed!

Beautiful garage! I wonder what other useful equipment you could get in there, if you were to get rid of the encroaching washer, drier, and hot water heater.
I think a few of us might be interested in a small run of 930 EFI injector blocks....

Mark, I was just drueling over your car (nice color, BTW!) and I have to ask...whats the wire coming out of the back window and into the engine compartment? "Drive by wire"?

Seeing pictures of a garage like that reminds me why women should not read beauty magazines....suddenly my garage feels ugly and unloved. I think I'll go drown my garage inadequecies with a quart of double fudge ice cream. Does this CNC machine make my butt look fat?
