What to use to repair a gouge in Cam housing...I didn't do it...

I removed the seal on the very front of the left side cam that drives the MFI pump. I removed by drilling a 1/16" hole straight into it and then placing a sheet metal screw in the hole and pulling. Came out without a problem. I used a set punch to ease my fears of losing control of the drill.

I removed it without a problem but I don't think the person before me followed had a similiar experience. There is a gouge where it looks like someone tried to pry the seal out with a screw driver. The scratch is a approximately 1mm wide and maybe .75mm deep. It looks like it could keep the seal that I'm about to replace from properly sealing.

Is there something that would seal this gouge in the cam housing?

Thanks,
Ian

Ian,

Yes. Carefully clean the damaged area to “lacquer thinner” clean.

When you install the new seal, put some high-temp silicone-seal in the damaged area. You don’t need it all the way around the seal, just the damaged area. This should work just fine.

Best,
Grady
