Clueless in Seattle

So I'm in Seattle on business for 3 weeks. Thinking of moving here. The major decision would be about my cars. 69 2.0 and 71 2.2. What legal hurdles would I have to get through to relocate. ie Safety, smog, etc.

Legal hurdles? Pretty sure you don't even have to smog cars that old here. At most smog check and reregister them locally, but probably just the latter.

Check out the Washington State Department of Licensing website for the truth of the matter on smog testing though, it should list the requirements somewhere.

Good roads and no smog checks....after '79.

This is about as bad as the weather gets here.

Except of course for the fact that it's like this almost continously October through April/June, and those 1-10 days every winter where it either snows or freezes over into a giant sheet of ice.

mmm, he's moving here from Canada. There are very strict DOT regulations concerning cars imported to the U.S. that weren't produced to U.S. specs. I don't know about Canada, maybe it's no big deal. I know that Euro cars have to go through a Federalization procedure that for most cars requires thousands of dollars worth of mods to meet DOT specs.

Come on mmm...we get to drive a lot and a 911 is a hoot in the little rain we do get. Cool temps make a air cooled 911s last longer and have more power. You can ditch the A/C and put your car on a diet in the NW. Rain tires keep the speeds sane on fun runs. No salt on the roads to eat you baby while it is asleep.

Never gets cold enough to really need a heater so you can dump that too.

Wet roads keeps the tourists honest in a 911 and make the local NW guys look like professionals.

When the sun does come out the scennery is second too none...but them so is Ketchican AK

Seattle pluses - Huge Porsche community, beautiful summers, great roads, great mechanic (John Walker is the best). WA smogs cars up to 25 years. You're clear of that.

Move another 800 miles south, and ... welcome to sunny beautiful gorgeous Northern California, ditch your Porsche and buy them here in Cal for a dime a dozen. At least, that is what everybody else outside of Cal accuses us of !!!

I just passed a used car dealer with a red clean 911SC and a big sign that says $8950.

Yelcab1 has it right! You will have to make a few sacrifices if you move to CA. The government holds your car hostage until it passes a few tests . Sad but true! I'm sure WA will be a lot easier to move to though . If you decide to move to WA, good luck. I hear it is very beautiful up there.

I saw one here, just the other day, with big white numbers painted on the windshield that said "$6995". A sweet looking coupe with a ducktail and black "Carrera" script on the rockers.

I only caught a glimpse as I was passing by, but it looked pretty sweet as I passed. (Sure wish my wife would ask me again what I wanted for Christmas...

Your cars do not need smog checks since they are past the cut off date, unless the Calif smog crew arrives. Your cars will require an inspection by the State Patrol, which is basically a joke. They run the VIN and make sure your lights work - hand them about $35 and your done - then you take your slip of paper to the DOL office near you and pay some more.
