Supercharging a 3.2

I'm looking for someone who has had experience with supercharging the Carrera 3.2 liter engine.

I'm considering going that route with my 3.2, it seems like it would be a lot more cost effective than going the turbo route.

Heres what I have to work with:

Wow, that's a pretty killer looking engine. Cool.

nice car.You can supercharge it but you`ll need to buy a kit to do it unless you`re pretty talented with fabrication.l went turbo on my 84 3.2 because it seemed easier and since Porsche paved the way used parts were easy to come by and cheap.Either way expect to pay $5000.00 if you want it done right and that price reflects you doing some of the work yourself.lf you turn the conversion out as well as your engine compartment there shouldn`t be any problems...

The SOK kit for the 3.2 is $7000+
Nothing is cheap with these cars.

I seriously doubt it.

Good supercharger will cost more than good turbo, it will be less reliable, require intrikate belt-drive assembly, will use more power to operate and give you less in the end. You'll need intercooler anyway.

Natchamp here experimented with supercharger but ditched it in favour of twin turbos.

Yeah, I just stumbled onto his website this morning while doing a bit of research on this subject. Certainly an impressive project.

Supercharging - to me - seems like it would be a lot cheaper in my case for the following reasons:

I am good friends with the owner of bahn brenner motorsport - a company that builds twin screw supercharger kits for VWs based on autorotor chargers - so I can attain a supercharger at a reasonable price.

Secondly, I would inter-cool either setup, so its not and "added" cost per say.

Third, the savings of a turbo vs a supercharger are totally negated by the complexity of the plumbing required with a twin turbo setup.

Ultimately though, I love the way the supercharged VWs drive compared to the turbo ones. The supercharger delivers power like a faucet delivers water - instant on.

In the mean time, I'm going to email natchamp for a first hand take on the subject

I would also like to add, that I came accross the turbo vs twin turbo vs supercharger thread and can appreciate both sides of the fence. that was a good read

Take a look at this supercharger at www.rotrex.eu.com
Its small and could easly be installed where the a/c compressor would normally be.I don't know if anyone has developed a Porsche kit with this charger but it looks like it might be easy.

I contacted Bahn with interest in there supercharger, but got a cold respones..estentially, they were not intersted in working with me. I talked to an exec. at Rotrex about their SC. I got a better response, their President called me! I like their product, and I'll be working on a system using it for one of my cars.

There are compromises one way or the other, but I like the idea of a simple top end bolt on without adding the cost of the exhaust!
