G50 backup-light switch
Hello,
I have a 1988 Carerra with back-up lights that will not work. I pulled the connectors out of the switch on the transmission and shorted them. volia! The backup lights worked. So I'm guessing that either the switch or pushrod needs replacement. (at $73 I'm hoping not the switch) Can anyone tell me what wrench size you need to remove the switch and if you may remove it without having to drain the oil in the trans? thanks, Todd '88 Carrera |
Todd,
could not find the size in my books, and I do not think you have to drain the fluid to remove it. Send a PM to John Walker or Chris Bennet and ask them. Good luck-t |
I just replaced mine, I believe you will need a 19mm wrench. You might lose a couple of drops of gear lubricant, but that is about it. Just keep a rag handy, no need to have a bucket or pan.
Make sure you reconnect the wires the same way, as the connectors are shaped a bit different upon close inspection. Real easy to do. Ralph |
Ralph,
Will the connectors plug in the wrong way and not work? My back up lights worked until I did an engine drop last year. I haven't had a chance to get back under the car and double check the connectors. |
AFIK the switch is well, just a switch. Even if you manage to reverse the connections it shouldn't matter.

22mm socket for the switch.
The connectors appear to be the same size - see photo http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1102668066.jpg |
