RSR strut brace tube size
Hi,
Does anybody can tell me the tube size for RSR weld in brackets. I got cheap laser cut brackets, and want to fabricate my own bar. Thx André |

Attempting to replicate the original vintage bar? Other than steel, don't know the OD.
If only trying to assemble a strut bar, you have a choice of aluminum, steel, carbon fiber or Ti in a choice of sizes (length, wall thickness and OD). The material and the degree of finish (ends) will determine the end link connections to the mounting brackets. I believe the factory RSR bars were fabricated to a specific length, then merely attached to the bracket via a bolt and/or clevis pin through a hole drilled in the steel tube (hole details, if reinforced, is unknown). You may want some adjustment or preload capabilitty. Male rod ends at each end are commonly used for this purpose. Sorry, can't help with specifics. Hope the generic info helps. Sherwood |

I know that many strut braces appear to have a preload capability but do you think this is a good idea? ![]() I would say that the adjustment is top ensure that the bar in 'neutral' and unloaded in the standard ride configuration and when the car is not moving. Any preload will try to move the towers as the load changes as the car travels over bumps. |

If dede911 wants to replicate the RSR look without any tube length adjustment mechanism, he would have to fabricate to length, pre-assemble the strut bar/mounting brackets, then weld in place. Sherwood |

Dede,
I welded some RSR strut brackets in my car and i'm using the Weltmeister strut bar with some custom bushings to take up the gaps.No issues whatsoever ... if you like i can take pictures and measurements for you. Side note : I'm using only the bar which is fairly well made as compared to their somewhat useless strut attachment bracket ... Cheers Phil

Hi,
Yes, I'm looking for the OD of an original style bar. I also don't believe in preload. Because I will fabricate It myself, even with small misalignment, I can customize it to make it fit. André |

I think it is 3/4" OD and something around .065" wall from memory. Crush tubes get welded to the bar through the holes so that the bolts go through and clamp down on those tubes and not the bar itself. I had one but the brackets were welded in first so the bar didn't fit, or if it was fit with the car preloaded then the alignment was wrong. I went with a spherical bearing type from Rebel Racing.

we make them from 3/4 tubing / 063 wall as metric tubing is a pita here in the usa to source at reasonable pricing. We supply the crush sleeves separately so the installer can get the dimensions correct when they weld the braces and set the tube in place

Hi,
thanks for the pipe dimensions. I picked-up the tube as well as some tube to cut the crush tube from. All available from my (indutsrial) hardware store for 10€... If I find some time this weekend , I can start fabrication. Thanks again. André |

So is there a correct placement for the braces? I ask as I've seem some that are center of the strut tube, others that are somewhat forward and others slightly back.

Good point.
I also struggled with that, and studied a lot of pics on the forum and on other web-pics. I don't think there is a general answer, because I doubt that all brackets (from different suppliers) are exactly the same. The shape of the brackets will determine more or less the fit. My goal was to get a reasonable alignment between the brackets. This worked out is a way that my fit is slightly to the rear, or front leg of the bracket is in the middle of the strut opening. Now that you've mentioned it I think that's been my take as well... does anyone have pics of their installation?
