Removing stubborn sound deadening material

How do you remove stubborn sound deadening material. I am stripping the interior of a BMW 2002 and can't seem to get that stuff off real easy. I was wondering if anybody had any easy ideas before going crazy with the chisel and stuff.

I know nothing about 2002s, but assuming the material is similar to whats on the floorbaords of an old 911, I would get out the heat gun and a chisel. An angle grinder and coarse wire brush would be less elegant, create more of a mess, and be more effective. Good luck, this is a nasty job.

I agree. I just did my 911 and used a heat gun with a putty knife
and after this a little clean up with acetone worked well.

Ditto with the heat gun. it will still suck, but not for as long.

THanks. I tried just prying up a corner and it didn't work so I quit for a little while. Of course it could have gone like the front floor boards and just lifted the whole floorboard (rotten) up with it so I can see my garage floor below it!

Diddo on the heat gun and add alot of banging with the chisel-hammer combo. On the older 911's maybe even some earplugs - my ears rang for awhile after hours of grinding away. Good luck - since yours is newer it may be easier.
