muffler guts?
Does anyone know what the basic internal design of most 911 aftermarket mufflers is? Do most have fiber glass type material surrounding perforated tubing or do most just have hollow chambers seperated by baffles and linked with perforated tubes?
I am thinking about playing around this winter with some tubing and the tig welder.

Tim most are fiberglass packed mine are perforated tubes. I also use chambers. It takes a llot of time to figure out what does not drone and what does and what flows free etc. I have learned over the 30 mufflers In the past six months. Good luck

thanks Ben,
I have no plans to cut into your business, I just like making and experimenting myself. My other watercooled P cars have exhausts that i have built myself and I pose the question just to see what others know about it. Info gained on this forum can save one some time now and then. Thanks P935 for the link it looks useful.

I have made a few mufflers for 930's and other cars. I use SS perforated tubing and Stainless steel wool for packing. If I was smart I would use mild steel to design and test the differerent mufflers. Then when I liked a design I would make it out of SS. That would be much smarter.
Have fun Dean

Thanks guys.
Ben, I see you are in Wisconsin. Have you ever attended the EAA Oshkosh flyin? I know you are using 321 SS which is what aircraft exhaust systems are typically made of. I figured you must have some tie to aviation to buy your 321 at a reasonable cost because I know what that stuff costs. Your mufflers are an awesome deal because the 321 SS costs are probably double that of 304 SS. I hope your customers know how good of a deal you are giving them! Good luck with your muffler business!

Yeah worked the booths for 4 or 5 years also went to the fly in in lakeland florida several times. Of course I can't reveal my sources not like anybody else would get the deal but in interest of making a go of the business. The fly in here is about an hour and a half away from me. Tim like I said I don't have problem giving you an inside look.
