Just Another Internet SCAM!

I saw this Car on a yahoo site and sent a email to the owner to verify the selling price. Below is the reply that was sent to me. Its obviously a scam but why aren't these guys being shut down? It seems you hear more and more of this happening every day. I've notified yahoo but the add is still up and running. Buyers beware!

http://used-cars.autos.yahoo.com/usedcars/detail/index.html?cid=automobiles-1102353332-5084453

-----------------
Returned email:

Hello,
Sorry for delay
The car is in a perfect condition, the milage is accurate, no
scratches, no
damages, no hidden defects.Kept it in a warm garage. My girlfriend is
devastated that we have to sell it but we have to pay too much money
for
register it here,so we decide to sell it. My company have relations in
States and I worked there for 2 years. I has the oportunity to buy it
from
there and bring it with me when I come back. The car was buyed from US,
so
it is US standards,so stay cool itīs perfect
compatibile to your standards and you will donīt have to pay more duty
taxes
on it. And this is an impediment for me to sell it here caus, first, we
have
a different standards and second will be very expensive for me to
register
it here.I have to pay an very expensive duty taxes. The price for this
car is
$7,500.00 USD. The car it is still register in States. What other info.
would
you like on it?
It will be shipped from Athens,Greece and i will pay the shipping and
insurance charges.
I will do the arrangements for shipping from here. The original receipt
and
all remainded warranty information packet with enrollment number is
included for you. If necessary ever I will assist you in getting
warranty
help; most people just dump it on you with a useless warranty. The
payment
will be done via secure pay which means that the third party will keep
the
money until you receive and inspect the car. You have 10 days to
inspect the
car.I will wait for your email to let me know if you are interested in
knowing more details about the purchase.
Best Regards
Wieru

I was offered a turbo 964 engine with only 9k miles for $8k from England with a very familiar tone. This third part money thing seems to be a common effort to provide the sensation of security to the buyer.

Anybody stupid enough to think they can get a Cayenne for $7500 deserves to be scammed. It is said a fool and his money are soon parted...

I know that there is at least one Pelican-head in Greece. I've started a separate thread linked to this one to see if we can have anyone drive by this car and see if it is legitimate.

ditto:

One of the e-mails from a person i had contacted regarding a 911:

Thank you for your interes but i only give my phone number to the buyer that i really think he wants to buy. How do i know that you are the real buyer. if i give my telephone number to everybody i am sure i will make a mistake. Assure me that you really want to buy it! And for the moment, i am located in Luxembourg, Europe with some bussines. Let me know if you are really interesed in purchase to complete this deal! Sorry for my reserve! I am looking for your email ASAP!

What? He is a seller and doesn't want to be contacted?

Another e-mail from him (her?):

I can see that you are really interesed in purchase my car. In your next email, please provide me your complete name and shipping address and you will receive the payment terms and condition.

Um, yeah - right.

Anyway, so thought i'd report it to place where ad was (told them i had a few e-mails from someone i contacted through them which could be legitimate, but seemed a little fishy) and got a reply just now:

Using the information you provided we were able to locate the ad and have determined it to not be a legitimate listing. It has been removed as fraudulent. While we are very sorry that you encountered this unfortunate situation, we are grateful that you have taken the time to bring it to our attention.

If you see any other suspicious advertisements or have any other
questions, please feel free to contact us.

Hope the guy doesn't send me a computer virus or something !
