My list of 911 "To Dos" is growing... Any help?
...damn I've only had this car 2 months (1989 Carrera 3.2). Most of these are probably DIY jobs but I just have to find the time:
1. Brake light switches on master cylinder apparently need to be cleaned/replaced and system bled - Brake lights don't come on immediately when the pedal is depressed, only under light pressure. 2. Fore-back power adjustment on passengers seat doesn't work and needs to be fixed - Messed around with it but couldn't find anything wrong or jammed, switches seem to be OK as motor does pulse/jerk and try to move when switches are pressed but seat doesn't move. 3. Windshield washers don't work and need to be fixed - Bad pump?, bad stalk/switch?, clogged pump?, jammed pump motor?, clogged hoses/checkvalves?, clogged jets? 4. Need to replace lighted key head on one key - Inlaid Porsche Crest missing from PO. 5. Need to try and fix seal where passenger side view mirror is mounted to door - One corner of seal is folded under. 6. Need to get new floor mats and winter mats to protect them. 7. Need to investigate replacing rear engine lid shock - Engine lid doesn't stay up well, and it's probably heavier than many w/ the factory tail on there. 8. Need to install new front wiper blades - Chatter, chatter, chatter. 9. Need to get a soft socket for the wheel lugs and put the factory wheel locks back on. 10. Need to start collecting a good assortment of 911 Books/References/Manuals. 11. Gonna need an oil and filter change soonish - 2550 miles since PO last had oil and filter changed, wondering about switching to Synthetic? Car has 62K and counting, and currently no oil leaks. 12 Quarts at $4/quart for synthetic ain't cheap though if it's not really much advantage over dino, hrmmmm. 12. Need to wash and clean up car inside and out. Any thoughts on any of the above and I'm all ears. Just gotta find the time to start working on this stuff, either that or take it in to John Walkers... |

It could be worse... my list includes put the fender back on, put gas tank back in, and other similar items.
1) friend had brake lights go intermittent then not at all. replace the switches on the master cylinder. 4) I think pelican has the lighted key heads. 7) lid shocks seem to need replacing every couple of years so get used to it - get long wooden stick for front hood 10) 101 projects, Wayne's engine rebuilding book, and the Bentley manual all recommended 11) read recent oil thread

How about:
1. remove front suspension 2. remove rear suspension 3. remove shift tower 4. remove engine 5. remove seats (if not powered) 6. find nice '72 car 7. install above on '72 8. sell burnt out lux Carrera shell 9. drive the great car you've made! OR if that isn't really your cup of tea, then do the safety related items on your list first (wipers, etc.) and defer the others.

1. replace switches. Make sure you do a full fluid flush to get the old stuff out. Bleeding brakes is not my favorite job. A shop should charge ~$80
3. the pump is at the very front of the trunk. get a helper to activate the switch while you watch / listen to it. If it works its probably the jets that are clogged. 4. if its your spare key, I don't think anyone will notice ![]() 5. the seal is probably damaged if its crushed under there. should be easy to find another. 6. winter mats- cheapo rubber ones (with deep 'tread') are great. 7. fiddly- there are heavy duty shocks available. with a rear tail there should be 2 shocks back there. 8. curiously the ones Pelican stocks seem too long by about 1"? 9. I wouldn't bother. the only time I ever hear wheel locks mentioned its in the context of "help, I've lost my key & need to drill out my wheel locks". I've never heard of fuchs being stolen. 10. Bentley manual, 101 Projects, 911 Performance Handbook 11. I would stick w/ dino oil. |

You know if you had everything lined up right next to each other, you probably could do it in a weekend!
As A Gruppe RB member, you could use the spare time in that weekend to hotrod the engine too.
