left to right conversion!!!

Here...(hopefully) are some shots of my converted left to right Carrera 3.0. I should point out that I knew what a mess it was before I bourght it so I got it pretty cheap...just under-estimated quite how long it would take to put it right. It's still a work in progress and still an awfully long way to go (Haven't even started on the engine!) but I guess that's the whole point really! Enjoy....

I second chris`s comment about the wiring,when i looked under my dash when installing the stereo i thought what the hell is all this spaghetti!! ,and i had heard the Germans were tidy and orderly

The wiring on these old cars is nothing. Check out a 996 or even a 993 for that matter. Way more spagetti.

Thanks for all your interest in my 'little project'. A few answers to your questions...I bought the car already converted. It cost me £7K about two years ago. (Should have paid a less but you live and learn!) It was running nicely till it died on me 9 months later. I'm now in the process of putting it all back together and greatly appreciate all your kind words of encouragement as I've never done anything like this before! Still trying to get some instructions about how to put screens back in...hint hint. Cheers..I'll post you more pics as I can...

I see you still have the LHD smugglers box in the trunk. How did you re-route the steering rack.. did you cut up the bottom of the box? I had my 930 converted to RHD and the whole panel in the trunk was cut out and replaced.

I also had the brake master Cylinder replaced with a reconditioned RHD unit and moved the the RH side

If you need I can send you pictures of areas of the finished conversions as you require.

This is the first time that I have ever seen a RHD 911, or even an attemted conversion. Did they make and RHD 911s, or only LHD?
How did you customize the dashboard, and pedal configuration for the conversion?

looks like there is a linkage left to right -under the dash that runs to where the LHD steering would go through the front sheet metal.

The steering has basically been flipped over from right to left. All the linkages are the same though the 'original conversion people re-welded the shaft too. I know...horror! I've had to move the steering lock bracket over so that now locks as it should. The dash is a whole RHD unit so no problems there. As for the pedals...I wasn't quite sure how Porsche set them up for RHD so I looked on this fantasic site to get the diagrams. I've basically copied how they are but with my own brackets holding it all down to the floor. They where a complete mess as you can see from the top photos. The 'plonkers' had even welded the entire cluster to the chassis so no chance of getting them out for maintance! Also check out how the throttle 'bar' was welded in! Nasty! Other bits to consider where the mirror positions which caught me out as I thought you could just re position them...but found out the brackets are at totally different angles...so I got a new pair of RHD ones s/hand for £50 and welded up the old positions. Keep saying it but more photo's to come...just as soon as I can get to working on it again...Cheers M
