Whats the math equation?

Every 100 lbs = 10 HP?

That would equal 5 hp, 50 lb loss should be better than that. I must have the numbers wrong.

Any help?

Oh, yea it's going to look funny without replacing it with something...........thinking even fiberglass with paint is 25 lbs, right?

Looks like alfizzo had more stuff on the rear bumber. Big US bread loafs, 2 shocks, accordians and skirts.

Alfizzo, would you mind weighing the individual items? shocks and loaves in particular.

Isn't that a euro rear bumper in your pic Bill? I think the other bumper also has the heavier US bumper shocks, US Rubber guards and Qt panel extensions. still attached.
Either way we know the US /SC & carrera bumper is hea-vy.....

" I don't understand how this nonsense persists, it's been posted over and over"

- You don't???

Did you realize that
1. evolution is false, and just a theory anyway
2. Saddam had nukes, and was a big shot with Al Quadia
3. the Earth is flat

Now, the persistence of the urban myth bumper stuff doesn't look so crazy....

Here is an engineering law to memorize:
"Bad information percolates via diffusion laws - if not bulk flow - until it hits a barrier engineered to contain it."

Seems about 20 lbs too much.

here is a better pic in neg image. you can see the whole bumper assembly i took out of my 77 911s license plate and all still attached. i weight it on my very accurate digital scale. it weights 54 pounds. however their has been many post on rear bumper weight but they tend to differ. 54# is the weight of mine with a reference photo of what i weighted. if anyone want more pics i can take more.

If you've ever lifted that assembly in the picture above up (I have!), I think you will agree that 54 lbs is definately in the ballpark, give or take a pound or two.

With the big US pads, shocks, accordians, etc. on it, I was really surprised how heavy it was the first time I picked it up.

Compare apples to apples

yes, mine is a euro, yes the euro pads are smaller and lighter than US

I weighed the bumpers & valances

some of you have included the shocks, spats, and other parts which are not part of the bumper

Yeah, but you gotta count the spats - they are also replaced when alf is gonna do the glass bumper.

I think everyone would love an accurate weight on these components.
I'll weigh the goods when they come off my car early next year.

"very accurate digital scale"

There can also be differences caused by the measuring instrument. The description above could be a bathroom scale - many are notorious for temperature bias and other problems, including some that are spring scales but use a digital _readout_. Or it could mean an NBS traceable scale... or anything in between.

We might agree to use the term 'bumper assembly' when discussing the entire she-bang....

Alfizzo. Could you weigh the individual parts? I would be useful to know what the various pieces weigh.

thanks
alf
