Magnesium, Carbon, Sounds like a Porsche

But no, it's the new Z06 (Z-07)
Excerpt:

The 2006 Z06 is constructed around a perimeter-style frame just like other Corvettes, but the main rails beneath it are hydroformed out of aluminum instead of steel. The front engine cradle on the street car is made of lightweight and robust magnesium. And where the final year of the old Z06 included a carbon-fiber hood largely for commemorative-edition fanfare, the new Z06 takes advantage of that exercise by including carbon-fiber front fenders and wheelhouses plus sheet-carbon floorboards surrounding the model's traditional balsa-wood core. There's a lightweight, non-removable magnesium roof panel that simultaneously lower the Cg and greatly increases rigidity. And despite the addition of numerous beefier, heavier performance components such as larger brakes, heavier antiroll bars, and wider wheels, the 2006 Z06 weighs nearly 50 pounds less than the standard C6 (or some 3130 total) thanks to the extensive use of advanced chassis and body materials.

The numbers are nothing short of staggering: a full 500 horses at 6200 rpm, 475 lbs-ft @ 4800,

Quote:
Chevy insiders have sworn on their dead grandmothers' graves that the base Porsche 911 price was the program's target, yet it's hard to believe all that carbon, aluminum, and other specialized hardware can really be delivered in the high-60s; even a $75,000 sticker would be a spectacular value, especially compared to the six-figure tab of the Ford GT. On the other hand, anything more than that sum is likely to raise unfortunate accusations of ZR1-itis—it's hard to see how Chevy can win either way.

Just thought it was interesting that they used the 911 base price as their target, that's all.

Everybody likes to take cheap shots at the Corvette, but in reality, with this car your money goes the farthest.

No question, Corvette gives you the most bang for the buck. What car will get you banged the most? I would say Porsche!!!

I personally think it looks like an overgrown celica but you can't argue with the 3,000 lbs and 500 hp.

While I am not Corvette fan, it is huge value for money. Arguing about looks is futile. The car is fast capable and (relatively) affordable.
Would I want one? no.
Is it ugly? No
Is it a fast, technically inteesting car? yes
Is it good value? probably

You forgot the Ti exhaust system.

The Corvette has evolved a lot over the years. It now uses many advanced techniques and materials. I like the looks of the 997 better and it is more space efficient, as well as having the engine in the rear with all the advantages in dynamics that implies.

But no one should sell the 'vette short.

The 997 looks sexier than the Z07 by far and between the two I would take the 997 with out even a nano second of thought.

Now that has been said lets look at the facts

Porsche - Building bigger and bigger cars that weigh more than the previous year. Focusing on build 5000 lb trucks and has forgotten all about racing (except for GT)

Corvette - Building more advanced cars that weigh less than the previous years car and performs even better all for less money than a 911. Actively races and wins in a class that has more than one marque

Seems Corvette is the new Porsche

I'm not a fan of the headlights - too ricey for me. But GM is putting their advanced development efforts into the Corvette - hydroforming and carbon. Tip of the hat to them for pushing engineering theory on to the asphalt.

I'm seriously considering one, the bang for the buck can't be beat, the reliability remains the big question.

Even the base version C6 shows well against a 3.8 Carrera S on or off track.
