oil cooler - air flow and battery box

The pic shows how the PO mounted the Earl's oil cooler in my car. I am going to get it painted soon, and would like the body shop to see if they can open up some air flow to the cooler.

Where could they cut the battery box to do this?

Or should they just remove the battery box entirely and come up with some other arrangement for mounting the cooler?

PO displays some overkill on the oil cooler brackets.

This is not the ideal place for an oil cooler, but space is at a premium in our cars. If your car doesn't hold any significant history (an S for example) and if a front-mounted location isn't desireable, go ahead and remove the battery box. Depending on your climate, you may have to augment the system with an electric fan mounted in front of the cooler to encourage air flow at low vehicle speeds; maybe add'l vents in the bumper as well.

Thx, Sherwood - it's a T. I wouldn't hack up an S. Oregon is pretty cool but I'd like to prevent the battery box from blocking the air flow.

Do you have any suggestions on brackets to replace the battery box with?

Randy,
I'm sure there are 10X as many different mounting variations as there are aftermarket coolers. I put my Earls in front so I can't contribute any personal fender-mount stories, just my $.02. Show us your cooler.

Noah recently showed us how he deleted his battery box and added a cooler (or two?) to his ride. I don't remember the brand of cooler though. It's in the archives.

If your car does not have AC you can mount the battery in the "smugglers" box.
