Help...Engine still runs with ignition off

Just replaced the plugs and distibutor. Wow, what a PIA just for the plugs. While I was at it, replaced the by-pass valve gasket, powder coated the fan and housing, replaced air pump filter, new wastegate, K27, 1bar spring

So anyways, unplugged the fuel pump relays and turned it over a few times to get oil in the turbo. Plugged back the relays and engine starts right up. At cold, it idled great. Rolled it out on an incline and let it warm up. All of a sudden, the engine cuts off. Tried to crank it over a few times and no go. Since the car is on a downward slope, I figured I roll it down on level ground. Sure enough it starts up. The low fuel light is on, so does this make sense? Try to take the car out for a quick spin, but it stutters really bad. Barely made it back to the garage. Tried to turn off the ignition, but the engine continues to runs for about 5 more sec or so. Switched it on again and it stutters. Tried reving to 3K and still stutters (like one plug short). I can hear some popping sound from the exhaust.

Every time I turn off the ignition, the engine continues to run for a few more sec.

Whew...So could the low fuel have anything to do with the fuel pump no building enough pressure causing the stutter? What's with the engine no cutting off?

Thanks.

Besides the obvious of adding more fuel...

That year 930's are designed to run for a second or so once the ignition is turned off.

Check the plug wires again and that the dizzy timing adj is secure.

the delayed ignition cut-off relay doing it's thing. get some gas too. the yellow relay on the rear electrical panel may not be seated. it cuts off the fuel pumps. easy to tip it a bit if the cover was off the panel.

I'm no expert on turbo's, but I suggest some gas and double check your spark plug wires for position. It is very easy to switch a couple to the wrong cylinders. That would explain some of your symptoms.

I've had a bad diode on the alternator let the electrical system backfeed just enough to keep the engine running. Depressing the brake pedal and activating the rear lights was enough to stop the backfeed and shut the car off. The rebuilt alternator fixed the problem.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the tips. I basically reseated the fuel pump relays and added more gas. Fortunately, all the symptoms disappeared.

Here's the obligatory engine bay pic after all the tune up.

Sweet!!!

It looks way too clean. Quick, take it to the nearest track and get some dirt on that thing
