Do 86-89 Turbos have removeable wheel spacers on the front wheels?

I know they have a spacer that is an inch or so in the rear, that can be removed.

But do they also use a removeable spacer in the front?

Turbos, starting in 75, had the first TUV approved spacers if I recall....I'm sure someone will chime in if I am wrong.....they are removable but may cause inside tire rubbing on the wheel well if the wheel is installed w/o them.

I seem to recall them being 2 inch in the rear and 1 up front. They used longer than normal studs and the spacers slipped over them.

Brian,

I just got new wheels (kinesis k27's) made for my 79 930 so i know all about this(i think). My car has one-inch spacers in the back and no spacers in the front. As far as I know this is how they came stock from the factory, but an 86-89 might be different but I don’t think so.

I believe it was 1986 that the 930 front hubs were changed and made wider as to eliminate the need for spacers . Not positive on the year change but was around 86`

The change, I *believe* was in 80-81, but there were no USA spec cars available those years. We first saw the revised turbos's in 86 and that may be part of your recollection when you first saw the change.

The 78-79 cars used floating caliper hubs and the later cars used fixed. A good indication is the big $ difference in rotor prices for these two series of cars.....

Wil is correct, the removeable front spacer disappeared from 930s in 1980, at that time both the rotor and hub were modified to move the wheel outboard 1" , same as what the removable spacer did w/ the older hub rotor and spacer.

Note there are at least 3 different hubs(not counting the 930 change noted above) that have been used on 911s over the years(maybe 4), they have different thicknesses and other changes.
