88 3.2 need spring loaded clutch ideas

Hi,Im Joe.Does anyone know of a way to get rid of my rubber clutch disc in a 88 3.2.I heard you can use a stock pressure plate with a 930 disc ,but what throw out bearing?. any advice "part numbers" would be greatly appreciated. The engine is a hare above stock with SSI and 964 cams I dont really want to put a centerforce in, and can get a stock 87-89 pressure plate(new in box, just bolted up) from a fellow Pelicaner for a good deal...Thank You and any ideas would be greatly appreciated.Joe...

I didn't even know you could still buy rybber-center discs. Just buy the Sachs G50 clutch kit and make sure it includes the spring-centered disc. If you haven't done the G50 fork update yet, get that kit too. This is standard stuff and it will fit your car just fine.

You use the standard G50 pressure plate and release bearing, but instead of using the stock G50 rubber-centered disc use the spring-centered disc from the early 75-77 3.0L 930. It is a direct swap.

Sachs part numbers as follows:

G50 std. PP - 3082 175 232
G50 std. release bearing - 3151 173 202
75-77 3.0L 930 disc - 1861 568 331

Like Rick mentioned, do the fork update as well.

Ralph

Don't forget that the new release/throw-out bearing needs a new guide tube too! That is, if your car doesn't already have the new guide tube

Scroll down this topic:

G50 release bearing guide tube

I have the spring disc setup and I remember the 930 disc by itself was not cheap. $250. Apparently nowadays there is a Sachs clutch kit that includes a spring center disc (whether it's the 930 disc or not is not an issue) instead of the rubber center disc. That's a good deal if you get the kit. The 930 disc alone is $290 and i've seen Sachs G50 clutch kits with the spring disc for $500.

When doing the cross-shaft/fork update, you want to do the Weltmeister (or whoever makes that "no drilling necessary" shaft & fork kit) update kit

Read about forks and update kits here
