What Side Is Your Antenna On?

I have been looking at many pictures of our cars (as well have) and noticed antenna's on different sides.

My '79 SC has it on the drivers front fender.

Where is yours? I seen some cars with antenna's on the passenger side and some on the drivers. Is there a "correct" location for it or did Porsche throw them where ever they wanted?

83 ROW-- passenger side, I'll bet someone has an explanation though.

Manual antennas were on the driver's side, auto antennas on the passenger side.

From ordering my '78, I vaguely remember the manual and power antennas being on opposite sides. I have a manual on the left (driver) side. Does that theory fit your observations?

I have a 79 911SC Targa and the antenna is on the top of the roll bar and has a neat little fold up gizmo that it fits in. I don't know if it is stock or not, but it sure looks like it.

Fuel filler leaves only enough room for a manual antenna on the left (driver's) side; power antennas are located on the right side but with A/C it is still a tight fit on the right with the receiver/drier which is located in the same vicinity. Beware of the trap of buying a power antenna as a replacement for a left fender mounted manual as it won't fit no matter what the catalog ad says. Cheers, Jim

I have a mechanical one which will make sense on why it is on the drivers side and not on the passenger.

I wondered why the extra expense of tooling and brackets would be worth while... power antenna on the right due to space constraints, manual on the left for convenience. Makes sense.

Another of life's mysteries resolved.

'83 SC Targa -- power antenna on pax front fender.

The original antenna motor died, so had a third-party unit installed. Works just like new!

Cheers!

Porsche Crest antenna

It has something to do with vandalism. Therefore manual antenna's are on the drivers side and automatic antenna's on the passengers side.

Well that explains a few things.
My SC when stock had a manual antenna on the drivers side. The wrecked 930 donor I used had a power antenna on the passengers side. Both cars are '78s. The posermobile now has a manual antenna on the passengers side, how fitting!
I learn something new every day from you guys!
