RS Flares Questions

I've been unable to find a clear explaination on the differences between the "True RS" flares and the other rear fender flares that can be welded on for a RS conversion. Anyone have the answers?

Is it unwise to seek a salvage SC to cut out the rear flares? Pros or Cons?

Why do the front fenders, which appear to have more steel and a more complex form for manufacturing, cost so much less than the simple form of the stamped steel rear flares?

It seems that I have only two choices for rear flares - the 11" RSR style or the 8" RS style. What is the size of an early 930 rear fender? Does anyone manufacture an intermediate size that is wider than the RS but not "Dually Work Truck" wide.

Is there a prefered mfg of the flares? What makes them better?

Thanks in advance....

thomas

GT Racing makes an ST flare. He took these off a real ST and are wider than an RS. Do a search for ST flares and see if the contours are anything that you like.

I can't answer all your questions, but the face of the arch on an RS rear fender is different than an SC. The face of an SC is the same width all the way around. Not so with the RS.

I'm sure you can buy steel Turbo flares. I don't think they look like a dually. Some of the race cars did. But, do you notice the meats on them?

AFA the cost of a flare vs. a front fender, whose prices are you looking at? Complete new front fenders are outrages.

There aren't too many people stamping rear fender flares, it is what it is. More options in fiberglass, but you said "weld."

I think if you look up JPNovak's ST conversion it will answer some of your questions. I believe the ST's and RS's had a more rounded contour to the outer edge of the flare whereas the SC's and Carreras had a flatter lip profile that would need to receive some hammer and dolly treatment to make more correct. Do a search in this forum and you should find a few different threads on his car. Good luck.
