Pulley Seal Replacement: Does this look okay, Pic Attached
I was installing a new rear main pulley seal today. The seal went in very straight and looked perfect. Unfortunatly I gave it one extra tap.
As you can see there is very slight deformation where the metal ring dented every so slightly. This is visible at about 11 oclock in the photo. Will this effect the ability for this to seal well? Should I get a new seal and do this over? Thanks. Ian

If your labor is FREE then I would run it and see if it leaks, But for the price of a new seal I would replace it and sleep well at night

Ian,
It's a tough call for me to make. The safest thing would be to replace it. The job is not that hard though so you could leave it until it leaks again (maybe never). If you don't need the car right away and a new seal is easy to get in the time you need then I'd replace it. It might fail sooner because the lip where it touches the crank could be "crooked" and rub funny. -Andy

I'd bet money on that one being a leaker. And i'm not a betting kinda guy.
New seal for sure. It's not like they cost a lot of $. Peace of mind is definitely worth the cost of that seal. It's not worth the hassle of putting the engine back in the car, only to have it leak. Especially when you've debated on whether or not to fix something you think might be a problem.
