remove washer fluid reservior help

There is a lower mounting bolt and retaining strap holding this thing in place. I cannot get a socket or a wrench to the bolt. Any tips on tools to use to get the bolt off???

BUMP!
I too am looking for a detailed explanation on removing this thing......seems like it is held in place by this band type bracket as well as somewhere up in the fender, not sure. \
----------Anyone out there done this before?

I was able to get a 1/4" drive socket on the nut to remove the strap but I also had the left front wheel off when I did it. There is also a bolt on the top reservior behind the fill inlet and next to the discharge assembly cap. There is a good diagram of this under the parts diagrams section of the MS Road and Race site.

On my car the top of the nut is right against the metal retaining strap. Maybe I will dremmel off the bolt and just buy a new one...

The tank is held in place at two locations.

1. The metal strap that's giving people fits.

2. In the top of the wheel well behind the headlight bucket. The top of the washer reservoir is secured at the same location as the fuel system expansion tank.

I've taken the tank out a number of times. The only hang up I had was that the bolt in the strap is kinda rusty & stubborn. After getting the bolt out, I solved stubbornness issue by cleaning it and coating it with antiseize paste. I also double-nutted the bolt in the middle so you can hold the strap in place with one hand and then use a open-end wrench on the double nuts to get the bolt started in the female end of the strap.

Maybe post a picture of the problem you're having?

Here is a pic of the strap and bolt. The top of the bolt just about touches the strap making it very difficult to put a socket on it. I could try to force a socket on but I would rather not damage the strap if it isn't necessary. Any hints???

Yes, the strap will twist like anything if the bolt is corroded. I put a crescent wrench on the threaded steel part that the bolt goes into to keep it from rotating. I was not that successful, but I was able to get it out OK. Good news is that you can disassemble the whole affair with a bit of bending of the tabs, replate the whole thing and reassemble it to look like new...or just find one on Evil-bay. The strap appears to be stainless so it should be fine and it can be rebent back into shape pretty easily.

The upper bolt tends to be pretty close proximity to the top of the tank, typically I make sure all the dirt and crud that collects there has been scraped off and then use an extension of suitable length to get it to the point I can get leverage on it.

Good news... I got the bolt off. Woo Hoo!!! I soaked the whole thing last night in PB Blaster. I took a small pair of pliers and vice gripped them shut to the bolt head and slowly turned. Bingo. After a few turns I could get a socket to the end. To think I almost pulled the dremmel out.
