Brake Pads...What to choose?
Well the time has come to change my worn out brake pads. Pelican sells Ferodo pads, which seem to be good. But I need opinions from others. Now this is my daily driver car, but I drive it hard from time to time. Since im not the richest person either, the cheaper the better.

Try the Axis metal master. They may also come under the PBR brand name as well. They used to be Repco back in the old days. No noise, no dust, easy on rotors and good stopping power. Oh, cheap too!!

I agree with Jeff. Metal Masters are great all-around pads for the price.

I'm going to suggest you get something other than the MM's.
My 84 targa stopped like no other car I'd owned including an 86 and 77 C3 I had previously, put new rotors and MMs at all 4 corners, bled with Super Blue, and while the car brakes well and "within spec," my old pads felt significantly better. I bedded them in according to directions, and really they don't feel bad, and if I hadn't driven on the old pads, I probably wouldn't know there was a difference. Sadly I have no idea what my old pads were but would swap out in a second if I did.

I used the MetalMasters after years of using the factory Textar/Jurid pads and in a mixture of street and DE driving, the Metal Masters worked admirably (as good or better than the "factory" pads) in all the areas Jeff cite's above. I finally switched to Pagids when my speeds at DEs obsoleted the MMs...
I'd go back to MetalMasters if it wasn't for the track... Mike

If no track use then Metal Masters. On the track lots to choose from. I like the Pagids.

I put metal masters on my '88 and they felt great after about 50-100 miles. I had rebuilt the two front calipers, so I'm not sure if the initial weird feeling was because the pads were new (I bedded them in according to directions) or because of the rebuilt calipers.

Another option is the Axxis Deluxe instead of the Metalmasters.
For a street car these are a smidge more rotor friendly. Both are OK.. Wil

I'm a big fan of Performance Friction pads. Plenty of compounds to choose from to meet your requirements.

As a 'brake guy' - I say all the above have very good advice.
Have your pads meet your 'mission'; ie for hard street driving the MMs are the best choice by far. Track use? Pagid, or at least something tougher than the MM's.

I agree the Metal Masters take a little time to bed - If you are just street driving maybe even the textar or jurid (stock) would be fine. I see on the turbo shoot (in excellence) out that the car that stopped the shortest was on street pads...

Ferodos are good for the track and quiet for the street, so if you're lazy and don't want to change them back and forth.....
Perf. Friction has a street-rated Z compound pad that is great too. Hawk has HPS (high perf street) compound that is similar to the Perf Friction Z. |

So the metal masters seem the thing to get. Earlier jeff mentioned that they might come under the name PBR. Well performance sells those pads for cheap too. Is it the same as the metal masters?
