Will a G50 fit a 2.7L

Will a g50 fit a 2.7L and does anyone know what the serial numbers are for a LSD 915 tranny?

you would not have enough torque with a 2.7 to work a G50. too high geared.
the 915 number is on the rib below the diff housing. a trans w/LSD would have a 12 between the type (915/xx) and serial #'s.

Are you talking about whether it would mate to a 2.7 liter motor, or would it fit into a 1974-1977 911?

I have my 915 tranny torn apart. The output shaft is worn (the gear opposite the 41mm nut is wiggly in the spline), and I need to replace a fork and several other pieces. I am looking at what is available on ebay to see if it would be cheaper to get a less used tranny rather than continue my rebuild. I have read the gillion threads on tranny rebuilding and felt pretty good about doing it myself until I figured out I need to replace a shaft and will have to re adjust forks. Not too much information on adjusting forks. Also a lot of back lash in the diff, so that may need to come out as well, and I am not well veresed on preloading the diff correctly.

So, trying to sort it all out.

A G50 will mean a lot of extra work. I've heard figures as high as 4K, not including the cost of the box. Porsche shortened the 911's torsion tubes and bars when they went to the G50 in 1987, which means you need to either weld in the shorter tubes and bars with a frame jig, or cut them out and switch to coil-overs, which means reinforcing the rear shock towers and crossmember. Add to that things like a short bellhousing for the G50, a new pedal cluster for the hydraulic clutch. Maybe an electronic speedo, if you've got a 74. And then there are the surprises...

A used/rebuilt 915 makes more economic sense. Like JW says, the G50 is geared taller than your current box, which will make your motor feel weaker. It's also a little bit heavier.

Thanks for the reply Jack. I will continue down the 915 road. Now just need to find another output shaft.

you might want to look for a later 78+ 915 box due to its strength. It will be a little heavier but unless you track you will probably not notice it.
expect minor fitment issues to come up.
