Att JW-901 syncro's/shift forks

Is it possible to replace syncro's on pinion shaft ie 1st/2nd without distrupting the shift forks, therefore not requiring the shift fork jig tool?

You need to remove the 1st/reverst fork as I remember, its a 901? should be the same as my 902, Jig tool is only about 20 bucks but you can really do it without it after having done many myself. The tool helps more with 2.3 and 4,5th so if your doing second I guess it would be good to have.

Damon,

Scout around and see if someone in the outback has one you can borrow. Barring that, ask what a dealer will let you use one for or what they will charge to set them. Surely somewhere there is a decrepit 901/911/914 transmission casting. From that you can make a better-than-factory tool by cutting out the side of the case for access to the shift sleeves and pinch bolts.

Fishcop & others, chime in here. We can’t have our mates down under lacking anything.

Best,
Grady

Thanks Craig and Grady,

I've just moved back to my home town I grew up in. It's called Wagga Wagga, not quite the outback, but we do become quite resourcefull at times. I might get the jig sent from pelican. it'll be quicker than the horse and cart mail from Sydney or Melbourne!

the main and pinion shafts need to be removed from the intermediate plate to disassemble them. the fork bolts are removed and the shift rods pull out of the intermediate plate before the shafts come out, so no.
