What would you do?
 

I am selling a 76 Turbo for a client of the garage I use. It's got 49K miles on it and has been very well cared for, the first owner being Mr. Annis of Annis Porsche in MA, the second owner picking it up in 94 and doing everything right. Motor has been rebuilt, quality job, and front oil cooler added; every receipt since new.

I can buy it at a discount, but would need to sell my 84 Targa and 69E to do it.

Some notes: the Turbo needs nothing other than personal taste upgrades.

The Targa has a ton of miles on it and needs a full body respray, but has the sweetest suspension on it, interior is all new with ultrasuede and vinyl (except for tatty fixed back Momos), new dash, new windshield. I LOVE THIS CAR as a daily driver.


The E is in a similar situation. No rust, needs total respray, new windshield, new headliner, new rubber on glass all around. New dash and interior, just got some cool ST-style mystery sport seats and an Abarth Steering wheel. Also have all parts for a complete suspension R&R. I love this car for its nimbleness, 2.0 scream, and all around way cool car. It's terribly fun to drive.

...the other two all over the place (as I do), then trading them in on a turbo isn't a great idea because you won't want to drive it as much given its condition. You'll want to keep it perfect (esp after you sacrificed two cars for it).

Tough question. I'd be tempted, but will it end up being something go out and stare at all day long.

At 49k miles, I'd sure like to see it remain stock. When I do dream browse for turbos, I immediately skip all the "modded" crap and look for one that's just been maintained with a few changes here and there, even if it's old and beat up a bit.

Oh, and you'll need some cash to put Fuchs back on :)
Maybe you can trade for some Fuchs though.

It would be tough for me to sell a silver early car. You cant go wrong either way though.

How does the Turbo drive? What's it's interior like ?

It got a new clutch, new K27 and slightly higher compression P/C.

Bob, didn't drive it. Interior is all new from a later car.

Your currnt cars look nice, but that turbo is awesome. Great color combo. If the deal is really good, and the condition is as good as it looks in the photo, it may be one of those opportunities that you kick yourself later if you don't do it. I agree that you will want to keep it nice, so it would be best if you could somehow swing it to keep one of the others as more of a daily driver and sell the one you could get the most for.

I would go back to a stock sport seat, but it looks nice.

Would you then use the turbo as your daily? If so, I would say no. If not, I'd go for it cause there will always be other targas and early cars avail.

You know what you've got in the Targa and the "E". Plus you state that you love them. Sure they may not be perfect but hey. they are cars that you can get in and drive, one daily. Make no mistake though, the 930 is awesome but will that make you so anal about it that you stop enjoying it and start obsessing over it?

Shaun, if I were in your shoes, I'd buy the turbo, and sell the Grand Cherokee (and maybe the targa...if you had to). ;)

Turbo

Get the Turbo after getting it thorroughly checked out. Drive it, and tastefully modify it! No need to "save" it for future generations. You aren't a museum! :D

No offense, but a targa and a typical early car aren't worth keeping especially if the BOTH need paint. Good paint and body is very expensive. MORE expensive than engine rebuilds, since you can't possibly do good body and paint yourself - unless you have LOTS of practise and facilities. Consolidate!

Seriously, great colors on the turbo, but everytime I simplify down to one car or bike, it's not long before my eyes are wandering. That's not be a bad thing, really, unless you find yourself looking at 69Es. Actually, that settles it for me. I'd do the turbo.

I haven't driven one, but I suspect that even if you find that it ain't tits and you want to move on, you'll be glad you did it unless the motor blows up.

Same thing here. Over the years I have consolidated heaps into a half way respectful set of rides. I started out with $1000 vehicles. ;)
