new Ruf conversion

G'day All

Well I've been threatening to do this post for ages now so here goes ... some pictures of the Ruf bumper conversion completed on my car just before Christmas.

The original car is a 1984 930 that I bought 12 months ago from a deceased estate in Sydney. The PO had done some pretty nice work including 3.4l barrels and pistons, K27 turbo with 1bar boost, bigger cams, bigger intercooler, 935 headers, short gears, coil overs etc ... spent a LOT of money and did the job well. Unfortunately tastefulness went begging and the thing had ugly gold BBS wheels, a 930s front spoiler and huge 1980's Recaro's with "Reebok Pump" style inflatable air things! (lets not even talk about the four Imperial Star Fighter exhaust pipes.)

Anyway I managed to pick up some Ruf wheels and tyres a couple of months previous (17 x 8 and 10 with 235/45's and 275/40's) and after many false hopes finally found a beaten up pair of widebody bumpers on the back shelf of a panel beater in Sydney.

It turned out to be a lot of work as even after being "brought back to life" by the guy over east, they were still totally out of shape and had to be cut twice and re-glassed to fit. As you'll see further down, the front bar has a big dip in it and consequently the bonnet doesn't meet properly. But apart from this (which is fixable) I am generally very happy with the look. It also saved about 40 kgs in weight! Vroom!

Firstly, this is how the car looked when I bought it 12 months ago;

Check out those wheels ... Bling!!!

And here's how it looks now; (Apologies for photo quality)

Quite a change isn't it?! Like I said, there are still little things to fix but it's certainly coming along. The interiors next ......... crap...

Cheers

Simon

Mike,

yeah wondered who'd spot that ... it's actually a standard 911 rubber spoiler that has been cut and reshaped ... works pretty well. I haven't had it back on the track since this has been done so I don't know what the aerodynamics and down force are going to be like at speed. This will determine whether it stays on or not ...

Cheers

Simon

Very nice. Great transformation! Looks fantastic.

You know you can't stop there! How about adding the ruf side mirrors as well?

Ash

Simon, compliments to you as well. Looks much better. My 930 had awful wheels like that too. Glad they are gone!

Looks great! On the new RUF front bumper, are they dual indicators, or one indicator, one reflector (US-style)?

Thanks for all your kind words everyone ...

DJB - S spoiler still sitting at Ktec giving Kevin the *****s ...

Ash - the exterior is FINISHED!!! If any more money is spent on this car (and I mean IF) it will be spent on the interior only ... there are small pacific nations with GDP's less than the sunk cost of this car!

Adam - dual indicators

Cheers
