OK......thinking of a widebody transformation...probably not, but since I am getting fiberglass fenders, hood, & RUF bumpers......as well as 17" wheels.....the front WB fenders don't cost any extra. Just the rear flare labor at $500 per side.

So, please show me your side view of your wide body car (incl Turbo) - preferably with 17" wheels and or GP White

TIA!:p

These must be fiberglass....right? Look much wider than factory flares.

Anyone ever make wider than factory steel flares as one unit?

Those are modified steel turbo flares. The rear bumper required a 2 inch fg filler for the wider than stock flare.
Flares normally are installed in the stock location.
In cases where non stock tires sizes or lower ride heights are used then it is common to have the flare raised on the body and widened as needed. In these cases it is a good idea to have the ride height and rim tire combo completed before the car goes to the flare shop.

Curious as to the technique for widening steel flares. Is the lip flattened out and extended with a new one?

A narrow band is normally added in the middle leaving the factory outer edge finish.
More wide body pics? Race cars with mostly fg fenders I expect.

Don't mean to high-jack your thread, but since we're on the subject, there's something that's been bugging me about my track car. It's an 85 with C2 bumpers and looking at the picture you can see why it bugs me:

http://www.diazracing.com/Project/Im...240-R1-18A.jpg

The bottom edge of the tires stick out which can't be good for aerodynamics. I was thinking of going the 934 route but I need to keep the 15X7X8 (them's the rules). How auckward would a wide body look with those wheels? Or do I modify the bumpers to fit a narrow body? Any suggestions?

adomakin 01-11-2005 10:19 AM

who's is that crazy black RSR ??

Jack Olsen 01-11-2005 10:51 AM

It's Jae Lee's, or Mirage Int'l in San Diego. It's actually a dark green, and it's got a powerhouse of a n/a motor in it.

Armando, you'll only make your frontal area (and drag) worse by adding wider flares. As cool as they look, the aero penalty is high. If you're limited on wheel width, I would definitely keep your car as skinny as you legally can.

Rufblackbird 01-11-2005 11:01 AM

hmm...a widebody pic thread and no pics of BB2? I'll have to make up for some slackin' :D

Thanks Jack, I thought the front bumper would create a better streamline of air movement than the flat face of the tire.

Rufblackbird 01-11-2005 11:03 AM

you can see the body better in this one ;)

Wow. Really nice.
1976 934 is the look I'm aiming for btw - !

More?

Sarah 01-11-2005 11:43 AM

All right, I can't resist any longer. ;)

Obviously, the wider flares are very visible from behind:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1105479258.jpg

However, the widebody look is not so apparent from the side:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1105478643.jpg

It's more apparent at an angle:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1105478700.jpg

And it's very easy to see from above:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1105479149.jpg

And it just plain looks cool from in front:

1976 934 is the look I am after too. But the flares of the original are insane. They are 11 front and 13 back

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1105480521.jpg

Also you want to lose the original bumpers with the smile for a fiberglass 1 piece bumper both front and rear....

Like this:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1105480696.jpg

The original 934 front air dam will not fit to a 930. You will need to get the additional fb flares to attach to the 930 ones. I spoke to GT Racing and Rennsport and they dont do anything that goes on the 930.

The 2nd picture is from TRE Motorsports. They do have it avaliable and it fits the 930 front end.

I am still deciding what to do for the back end...

Craig 930 RS 01-11-2005 01:08 PM

Very interesting - this helps quite a bit.

So the bottom pic -- is that not a 934 front bumper on a 930 flare? I do believe this bottom ppic is much more the look I am after than the crazy 934 look....which it turns out I don't care for -
