3.2: Gradual throttle makes rpm jump from idle to steady 2200

I recently purchased a 1985 911 (love it!) and have been having a driveability problem that I cannot find in the archives. Would love to hear if anyone has an idea on this one:

In neutral at idle, if I gradually add throttle, the engine does nothing...nothing...nothing...then jumps up to a steady 2200 rpm. If I reduce throttle it drops to idle. I cannot get the engine to stay at any rpm between idle and 2200. Above 2200 it acts normally (additional gradual throttle gradually increases rpm).

This obviously causes driveability issues in traffic and jerkiness at low speeds.

In the past few weeks I have replaced:
Oxygen Sensor
Cylinder Head Temp sensor
DME Relay

PO says cap/rotor are 3 months old, plug wires 2 years old. Car is 100% stock with 100k miles. Other than the above issue it now runs very smoothly and strong.

Check the throttle valve switch. Lack of input from this switch to the control unit could cause poor throttle response.

Another thought. turn off the car and VERY gently lift up on the throttle assm. You should hear a "click".

Also check your entire throttle linkage. from under the car to the throttle body.
