How does my Goetze oil rings (with the spring inside), slide onto the piston?

I have Goetze rings,

1. Does the oil spring expand with the oil ring when it's being installed? (I can't see a "break" in this spring like the other rings)

2. Does the spring "roll" down with the oil ring?

I don't quite see how this oil ring with inside spring installs?

Thanks

Spring does have a "break", and there is a wire inside. Just find the break, spread apart and install _with_ the ring proper.

Hint: Install so that the break in the spring and the ring gap are 180 degrees apart.

You can also take the 'spring' out, place it in the land, then place the ring on top. Make sure the spring and rings gaps are not alligned.

I knew these rings would come in handy one day.....

I think the last engine I did I used the method that Charlie described. Just don't spread those rings too far apart!
