Question 911 exhaust/rear valence question

Questions from a new member,

The stock muffler on my '74 needs to go for reasons of both sound and some welds cracking on the inlets. I have a banana style dual inlet / dual outlet (long outlets near the center) muffler that came with the car...unknown brand, not polished but appears to be of the same basic configuation as those from Dansk.

I don't like the look of the car without a rear valence - where can I get a "blank" valence that I can then cut and paint to fit the dual outlets properly?

Anyone know if any of these dual outlet mufflers share common dimensions (i.e. outlet-to-outlet, elevation of outlets, etc)?

My back-up is to trash the dual outlet in favor of a new single outlet that fits the stock valence opening correctly.

Thank's for any help - I did attempt to research past postings...didn't really see this question covered but apologize if it was.

Don

Hi Don,

I have the dual sport muffler, and purchased a used valence for it. I had purchased the spare valance at a swap meet ($25).

Then I welded a piece of aluminun to cover the cut-out where the stock muffler would go, cut two oval holes for the sport muffler tips, painted the whole schmear, and voila, have the valence which hides the muffler, with the two tips nicely projecting through the valance.

Sorry I don't have a picture of it (I'm at work), but it looks cool and purpose built.

By the way, most dual-tip mufflers might be different from one manufacturer to another. I got mine from Alan Johnson (yes, that Alan Johnson in LA, who write the book). I'll bet all of his are the same design, thus same dimensions. But Dansk's might be different.

BTW2 - I had fabricated this for my old 1974 911, and when I purchased the 1983 911SC, I just transferred it from one car to the other. Nice thing about Porsche - no planned obscelesence!
