Feeler: North (West) meets South (West) in July
This is an outgrowth of a thread Catca started on the Racing/Autocross board. I'm trying to see how much interest there might be in a two-day event in Northern California where we try to get Pelicanite 911's to make the trip down from Canada/Washington/Oregon/Northern California -- or up from Arizona/Southern California/Nevada -- for maybe a Sunday of beer-drinking, boasting, BS-ing and bench racing and then a Monday where we get our own run group at a track day at Thunderhill.
Hopefully we could get to meet some of the local celebrity part-meisters (Wevo, Elephant, others) and maybe meet at Widebody911's cool new garage (there I go volunteering a guy without even checking with him) or another location where we can look under decklids a little and maybe even go on a canyon run. I'm just spitballing, here. But it would be fun to see my 3.6, Thom's 3.6, Craig911's super-3.6, RDane's 3.4 and some other stock, not-so-stock, and 3.whatever... cars out on one of the West Coast's coolest tracks. (Of course, in July, the track will be as hot as blazes. But we can handle that.) Hayden from Wevo will probably beat us all with his 2.4, which would provide even more 911 drama. The Monday event at Thunderhill is run by the T.E.A.M. Miata track day group. They seem like nice people, and are open to the idea of letting us have our own run group. Other Westerly states would be invited, too. Denver, Grady, are you out there? Cary, Leland, can you hear me? Post here if it seems like a good idea.

I will be there if nothing unexpected happens. My car will probably be ready by then! I'm upfixing the suspension, getting new seats and maybe new brakes (Can't find big reds anywhere.) Somebody better teach me to drive before I hurt myself!
I'll definitely make plans to be there. Just gotta see BBII in person!

How'd I leave that out?
I'm currently thinking: Sunday, July 17th and Monday, July 18th.

Jack, thanks for looking into this for us. I would love to not spend the 850us I am looking at if I come down with the Weissach/proformance group. Just gotta make sure I can find enough days free to make the treck. It is a long drive, probably split into 2 days each way, plus a couple at the track...... did I mention I don't have A/C!!! Hopefully the 3.6 will be in by then as well.
Jeff

Yeah, but even for the slower guys... it's a Miata track day.
Like I said in the other thread: racing with Miatas is like playing football with girls.

I'm in. It'd be great to meet some guys from outside CA.
What could we do to make the drive more worthwhile and hopefully get broader participation? It would be easier for many if it was a sat/sun event. A Monday track day may mean a tuesday drive home for some of these guys. Time off from work could be an obstacle.

Look forward to meeting you. I'll be easy to find, I'm in the overheated SC with the squeaky suspension.

could we organize our own independent of the miata group? if we are only granted one run group we might be mixing the real fast guys (experienced) with the slower guys (not so much experience). me being in the latter.
i would like to attend but i would not want to be one of the guys creating congestion on the track if granted only one run group. a group A (fast guys) and B group (not so much) might make for a more enjoyable event for both groups. just a spitball here too. i assume the requirements for safety equipment will be revealed? i have a helmet, but no fire system or belts other than my stock 3 pointers.. thunderhill is good though, i hear the camping facilities are pretty good. any penny saved you know?

July 17 / 18 would work for me.
Like Chuck, I assume a weekend date would be more appealing, but this forum is a good way to find out. Perhaps Between Elephant, Wevo and others we could host an all-comers BBQ for the night before or something else social ? Regards Hayden |

A weekend event would be best for me. Drive up late Friday. Spend Saturday and Sunday up north, then drive home Sunday afternoon.

Sounds MIGHTY appealing! By then my car would have proper cooling, have a repaint, new bumpers etc and not ~look~ like a track day beater.
Only thing is.......July? Hot! Hey Jack, most of us don't have A/C
