Just finished my fuchs...
lots of polishing, glass beading and painting... don't forget, tons of masking tape but I think they look great. Can't wait to get them mounted on the car.

Wow!
Clearly some hours spent on those!
you "think" they look great, those are awesome, i especially love the polished lips, contrast the centers great!! excellent work, where do i send mine??!!?!?
Thanks for the positive feedback!
I had originally planned to anodize them but then I found out that the aluminum needed to be free of all paint prior to anodizing. By that time I had already done the polishing and bead blasting on the face. The backs remained painted so I would have had to start from scratch if I wanted to do the anodizing. I decided to see how the bead blasted areas hold up without being anodized....we'll see.... |
What did you do to the non-polished part of the rim? It looks fantastic..
Now all you have to do is clear powder coat. Upkeep will be a snap!
Oh my god! That's beautiful.
Another Al Reed in the making. Great Job!
Oh my God! Those wheels are beautiful!!
How about a step by step on how you did this? Polish, tape, bead blast, tape some more, paint, etc... Do you have any pictures of the process?
I really like the look! |
beautiful. Nice contrast between the polished and the non-polished. What kind of finish is the non-polished section of the lip?
Outstanding! Those are some great looking wheels. I did mine and after looking at your wheels...I don't think will be posting any pics of mine any time soon...wow!

1. Remove excess paint, anodizing etc...
2. Polish just the outer lip and "paddles or spokes"... This is easy because you are not trying to get deep in any of the grooves. I mounted a buffing wheel on a bench mounted electric motor to do most of it. 3. Mask the polished part with 1/4" body shop masking tape. Use thicker tape t fill in the gaps but your fine detail is done with the 1/4" tape. 4. Glass bead everything else... One of the local shops kindly gave me full use of their blaster for 2 hours to get it done. 5. Mask the parts you want to keep "frosted." Again, use the 1/4" tape 6. Paint with satin black paint. I swear by this one brand of BBQ/Stove paint. It is the easiest paint to work with, dries super fast and is very durable. (My other wheels have been painted with that paint for 12 years with no wear) 7. Remove all masking tape 8. Take pictures to show off on Pelican 9. Display in living room until you get the tires mounted :D |
Will clear powder coating work well for this? Will it go over the existing paint and polished areas or can I mask it and just clear th bead blasted areas?
Absolutely stunning - post a picture when you get them on the car.
They look great, but without clear coating them with something, aren't the raw polished and glass beaded portions going to change color/shine quite a bit fairly quickly?
The glass beaded part looks really nice, kind of like the frosted anodize, but seems like it won't be very stable if left raw. |
I think Joe Herreros' Lindsey fuchs were bead blasted. Did he have them clear powder coated?
WOW!!!!! Wait till the tire guy with greasy fingers and the rubber hammer gets a hold of those!!!!!
